As you market your products, whether they are physical or digital, virtual or promissory, there are some mistakes that you’re going to want to avoid that can be all too common among the untested. They are things that you wouldn’t think about if you didn’t have to. They are things that can be avoided if you pay attention.
And they belong in the following categories – releasing untested software, any kind of spammy promotion, through social media or otherwise, bad spelling and grammar on any of your promotional material, acting desperate in any sense, and being inflexible about feedback.
Untested Software
When you’re developing software or an app of some sort, it’s easy to want to release it as soon as possible. But you can hit a nasty marketing backlash if there are bugs in your software. And that’s why you should always use software quality improvement services when possible. There are experts available to help you that will smash through the entirety of your programs and find every possible hole to fill, so that those mistakes don’t show up later when users have actually bought your product.
Spammy Promotions
Too much promotion in the wrong places is going to hurt your bottom line. Research spammy practices and avoid them at all costs. Even if you think just a bit of extra attention to this or that forum is going to help your cause, it may in fact end up doing exactly the opposite if people sniff out what you’re trying to do. There are lots of legitimate and mindful ways to get your message and product out there – avoid anything that makes you seem like you’re trying too hard.
Bad Spelling and Grammar
Nothing makes a company worse on its marketing path then if there are spelling and grammar mistakes. So make sure that you proofread everything that goes public. You can either use an editorial services for this, or have someone on staff, but once things get out, it’s hard to get them back in, and that goes double for looking uneducated.
Acting Desperate
Customers can tell when a company is acting desperate in its marketing. Hyping things up too much, giving things away too quickly, or otherwise trying to key in on pressure situations is only going to make your product look worse. Be smart, and be patient when marketing.
Being Inflexible
Finally, being inflexible about feedback is going to hurt your bottom line. Listening to what people say, on the other hand, and reacting to it, is going to get you a following of people that understand that you care about your product, and you’re making it for them with them in mind.
