Work meetings can be extremely important in all different types of businesses, as they are a great way for all the employees to get in the same page. It’s also a great time to talk about problems, solutions, and to simply motivate employees.
There are different tricks and trends that businesses use during work meetings to get employees involved. From where you have the meeting to what you say at the meeting, certain things are more motivational than others.
Where To Have The Meeting
It’s great to have a weekly or monthly meeting right at your workspace, but you may want to schedule an occasional meeting out of the office setting where employees can feel a little more laid back and more able to participate and voice themselves. Sometimes in the workplace it can seem too stuffy and feel much like they don’t have a say.
Find an event space outside of work to schedule a meeting once or twice a year. Make a theme out of it, that fits in with your business. These are things that help motivate employees and they’ll feel more like participating in discussions and contests.
Rewarding Good Workers
Spend some time at your meeting pointing out top sales people or someone that went over the top to do something great for the business or for a customer. Award prizes to these people. This not only motivates them to keep doing good, but it also motivates other employees to strive for more.
Reward them with something simple, like a king size candy bar. The point is that you bring their great work up so that people know what to strive for.
Other Ways Of Motivation
Contests were mentioned earlier. This is something that can really motivate employees, and works great in businesses with a sales team. Make the prizes something useful to your employees, like gift cards to local restaurants or general cash gift cards that can use anywhere.
You don’t want to spend the meeting calling out the employees that have messed up, but you may want to point out some of the employees that have gone above and beyond. When there are problems they can be addressed at the meetings, just avoid finger pointing. Keep that for one on one meetings.
Make your specialty meeting more than your normal work meetings. Have a meal planned, give a small gift bag to all in attendance with some company promo items, and make sure that you create an atmosphere where everyone can participate.
Employees come and go, so start each specialty meeting with introductions where every says who they are and their role in the company. This way everyone must say something, and this could help motivate them to speak later when you are looking for their ideas on how to increase sales or customer satisfaction.
