Originally started as a networking tool for students at Harvard 14 years ago, Facebook has become the eponymous tool for connecting people worldwide. As Facebook moved from the desktops of college students to the mobile devices of every person in the world, Facebook moved from just a social tool to being a major marketing platform for businesses.
One of the battles that Facebook faces in the eyes of users is how to stay relevant to age groups as they get older or enter into use. How will Facebook continue to be a relevant business marketing tool?
Platform users
Facebook has become a part of everyday life as it has moved into the palms of our hands. Connections and developments are shared worldwide now with the ability to follow friends and acquaintances from around the globe. Facebook is currently reporting upwards of 1.7 billion users directly and billions more on Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus. The billions of users provide and incredible blanket for marketers to throw out their advertising dollars on.
Visually impactful
Facebookâs platform is built for high visual impact and adjustable marketing reach. As they write the algorithms for connecting users to advertisers more and more, the relevancy of the advertisements in front of the user increases. Companies are also able to incorporate video, connections to the web, and high levels of creativity in their advertising.
Sharing
The built in strategy of sharing what is relevant to the viewer adds to the ability to distribute the messages of the advertiser. This prompts high creativity and desire for relevance in advertising. You have to put in the work to catch the eyes of viewers as a part of your advertising campaign. Being new and fresh, appealing to the most relevant age groups possible matters.
Targeted audiences
Facebook allows you to build custom audiences based on email lists that you connect to. This gives high flexibility and impact to your campaigns. You can also build audiences that look like your email list based on the criteria and personal data within your email lists. This allows you to target the followers of your blog or people that may appreciate your blog based on their online persona.
Time in front
The accessibility and the impulsiveness that Facebook drives, puts marketing in front of targets in ways that matter. The little red dot with a number in it pulls the user into conversations. Captured viewers are drawn further and further into the rabbit hole. Curiosity brings users deeper into the smattering of personal posts and focused advertising.
Some are saying that Facebook is declining in its impact, especially in the eyes of the millennial and younger markets. It is far too soon to tell, and Facebook is far too vast and powerful to underestimate in its flexibility and marketing strategies. For now, count on this fourteen-year-old to grow older and reach a very functional adulthood.
