We are always fond of importing goods, some of which prefer them because they are cheaper. But in what is typical in the saying that buying cheap is similar to having greater risk, the current debate over the impending health disaster that China has once again contributed to the world should be something that will make any consumer to ward off any pretensions that some goods from developing countries may have something fishy in them.
Apparently, we have seen the growing number of babies (53,000 and 4 dead the last I read), suffering from such a mishap. These dairy products are found to be contaminated with Melamine, a chemical used in plastic and fertilizer which can result in kidney stones. Once they develop, you can imagine at the discomfort and danger they pose to life. All of them inherited because of cheap alternatives towards local goods.
The bad thing about it all is the fact that outsourcing some raw materials and ingredients from countries like China has made it a domino effect. No one can tell right now which products are positive for Melamine and perhaps a proper audit of actual materials used will ensue.
It is not only China that is suffering. The world is too. No thanks to some overlooked aspect to which some companies are only after passing the safety standards were health issues even considered. Now it has claimed the lives of infants, new breed beings that are purely feeding on milk which is all they can really digest at their tender age.
