Lots of people have great ideas for businesses that they could create. They imagine how great it could be if they just got these ideas into motion, they could maybe even be the next Bill Gates!
Unfortunately for many, however, they let the administrative side of things get the better of them. The intimidation of dealing with everything on the paperwork side gets them scared, and so they throw in the towel altogether.
However, as long as you keep putting it off, the more regrets you’ll have. You’ll also begin to wonder if you could have ever made it had you just tried.
The first step is knowing exactly what you’ll need to get started. Once you know, you can start putting your dreams into reality by following the right steps. Here is what you’ll need.
Funds
When you first start a business, you’ll need to have money to get it off the ground. This money will go towards everything from creating business cards, buying office furniture and merchandise, and whatever else your particular niche requires.
Depending on how big your vision is, you may need to take out a loan. This way you can get started right away rather than having to save for decades. Just make sure that you don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Getting yourself into a loan which you may not be able to pay back if your business flops can be disastrous.
A Business License
You’ll need to pay for a business license to operate with customers and receive money for your services. Don’t worry about what name to put on it, or stressing out about your company brand yet.
You can tweak all that later, but for now, you want to get things started. To do that you’ll need to be able to operate as a business legally.
An EIN
You will need to have an employer identification number which is abbreviated as an EIN. This number is used for tax purposes if you have employees.
It’s free to acquire and can be done online in only a matter of steps.
A Location
Depending on the type of business you’re starting, you may need to secure an office or storefront. Start shopping around and find something which will serve as a home base for your business.
Otherwise, some small business owners opt to create a space in their own home.
A Company Name
At some point, you will need to create a brand and image for your business. You should choose a name which reflects what your company is about and that customers will be attracted to. It can be a lengthy process finding the perfect name. Don’t rush into something unless you feel confident about it.
