If there is one educational program that has been looked upon with prestige since it began and has grown over time, it would be the MBA Degree Program. MBA stands for Master of Business Administration. It is a post-graduate program that is essentially about theories and application of business and its management. It should be noted however that MBA Programs are not only limited to strictly business students since there are also business aspects in different areas of study.
This is the reason why MBA Programs are offered in different specialized concentrations. The most common areas of study for MBA Programs include Operations Management, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, and Human Resources. If we are to think about it, these areas of study can be applied in all forms and styles of industry.
There are many different kinds of MBA Programs offered in relation to its length and manner of study. It can be studied on a full-time basis; on-campus, online or even on a blended learning basis. There are also the so-called mini-MBA Programs which are actually short training courses that are non-credit bearing requiring less than 100 hours to complete the program.
A typical MBA curriculum requires students to take core courses before taking up the specialized courses. Core courses provide the foundation of the whole program so as to ensure that all students are equipped with basic understanding before any specialization is attempted. There are also basic requirements to be admitted into an MBA Program which includes among others work experience, academic transcripts, GMAT scores, letters of recommendation, and essays. All applicants for an MBA Program are typically interviewed before being admitted. This is one way of gauging an applicant’s readiness to participate in the program.
This is the common scenario in an on-campus MBA Program. An online MBA Degree Program is not much different in terms of requirements and curriculum. Even the tuition fee is not much different although an online MBA Program provides savings in terms of transportation and lodging cost. This is made possible since online MBA degree programs can be taken in the comfort of one’s home or place of employment.
Online courses offer much convenience to the students but there are certain challenges that are specific to online learning. The challenge lies in being able to make learning efficient even in an informal environment such as one’s home. Students attend the classes through the use of an Internet-connected computer while having access to professional instructors and other students taking the program. Students of online learning must be disciplined enough to take their studies seriously even in the absence of face-to-face teaching methods.
