3 Ways to Encourage Your Employees To Be Healthy At Work

As a business owner, you know that there are a lot of things that go into having a successful business. But especially for businesses with a larger number of employees, the health and wellness of those employees has to be a top priority for you if you want things to run as smoothly as possible. With healthy employees, you have workers taking fewer sick days and reduce the chances of spreading illness throughout your place of business. So to ensure that your workforce is as healthy as they can be, here are three ways that you can begin encouraging your employees to be healthier at work.

Make Preventative Care Easy

One of the best ways to keep your employees healthy is to put an emphasis on preventative care. It’s much easier to keep yourself healthy than to have to come back from being unhealthy. To show your employees that you care about their health, try to do what you can to make their preventative care easy. Provide health insurance that allows them to see their doctor on a regular basis to keep things in check. Also, AJ Agrawal, a contributor to Inc.com, shares that you can also do things like have flu shots available at your place of business during the fall. These things will all show your employees that you care about their health and keeping them from falling ill.

Encourage More Walking

Many modern workers don’t get the physical activity that their bodies need. When your body isn’t healthy, it’s much more likely that you’ll have other sickness or illnesses befall you as well. To combat this, it’s crucial that you keep your body healthy and encourage your employees to do the same. One way you can do this at work, according to Spencer Blackman, a contributor to Entrepreneur.com, is to hold walking meetings. Rather than sitting around in a conference room, have everyone involved in the meeting take a lap around your building, or at least stand rather than sit. This will help everyone burn a few more calories and get their blood pumping, too.

Keep Healthy Foods On Hand

Break rooms are notorious for having foods that can perk up employees’ blood sugar but that aren’t necessarily good for their health. So instead of stocking up the cupboards and fridge with processed foods or things that are high in sugar, Larry Alton, a contributor to NBC News, recommends having fruits, vegetables, and other healthy snacks to substitute for the candy and pastries. Additionally, rather than having soda and other sugary drinks available, try to encourage more people to drink water.
