A person who is said to be managing time is actually trying to manage himself to maximize what can be done in a fixed number of hours. The number of hours available will never change but a person’s accomplishments can. If one is seriously looking forward to business or career success, then he can start by managing himself to perform at the maximum level.
Self Management
The art and science of self-management is about employing methods and strategies that will help in attaining goals and objectives. This is very important in the world of business and successful career path. This is equally important as time management.
Self- management allows people to perform at their best towards attainment of excellence. It is about not being too comfortable with goals that have already been reached and looking for other avenues that may contribute to further development even in unknown areas. High achievers are usually not very comfortable in change especially when it requires learning in totally alien territory.
There is undoubtedly comfort in routines and most would rather not disturb the status quo especially if they seem to be in the winning side. Circumstances however, will not always agree with what one wants. Refusing to manage one’s self to accommodate change can prove to be disadvantageous.
Time Management
Time management on the other hand must not be forgotten since one can try accomplish as much as he wants in theory but can never do so without proper time management. It is a fact that there are so many things that need to be done to achieve success but creating time to do all of them is something that not everybody can succeed at. This is specially so in time management.
We cannot do anything about the number of hours given to us but we can certainly do something about what can be accomplished within that given time. People make the mistake of allotting every time they have to one particular goal, not realizing that success in one particular aspect can easily be offset by failure in another. The most common example of this is family and career.
Manage Self and Time
There is no way around it. One has to manage self and time in order to achieve goals without sacrificing equally important life aspects. When push comes to shove, it all boils down to priorities. Success after all, is a matter of perspective.
